DJ Jinx - Trocadero [Deal Records] Out now!!

The new collaberation between me and my buddy Bram Troost (DJ Jinx) is out now on Cloud9Dance label 'Deal Records'. In the end the original turned out to be a little bit to housey to release it under my name is well, so we chose to pu this track out under 'DJ Jinx'.

The track title, 'Trocadéro', is based on the world famous spot in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, a spot where Bram and I loved to hang out, when we were still living in France!

The package contains a great progressive house mix by Robert Nickson under his 'Thomas Didrik' guise, and the pumping 'Big Room Mix' by Dutch talent Michael de Kooker.

Wanneer we de chocoladeletters en pepernoten nog maar net achter de kiezen hebben en de radio al langzaam vervuild raakt van de elk jaar weer even onvermijdelijke als afschuwelijke platen van Wham, Mariah Carey, Slade, Paul McCartney en Band Aid, weten we dat het weer de tijd van terugblikken is. Terugblikken op het bijna voorbije jaar en dat doen we met jaaroverzichten. Van het jaaroverzicht van Het Journaal (publiek en commercieel) tot aan het jaaroverzicht van de plaatselijke kantklosclub, we doen allemaal mee aan onze nationale jaarlijstjeshobby. Armada schoof mij een dubbelcd onder de luistergrage oortjes met een Trance Yearmix over 2008, ‘The best tunes in the mix’. Ze moeten daar gedacht hebben: “This year, to save me from tears, I’ll give it to someone special.” En geef ze eens ongelijk.

Eerste Ronde

Over deze release allereerst het volgende. Ere wie ere toekomt. Een set van maar liefst negenenzestig platen (verdeeld over twee cd’s weliswaar, maar toch) die moet niet alleen strak maar ook interessant gemixed zijn. Wil je de aandacht vast weten te houden, wil je de luisteraars blijven boeien, moet je een heel goede opbouw neerzetten. Moet je de flow vasthouden en toch op het juiste moment rustpunten brengen. Dat kan ‘ie. En dat doet ‘ie. Ruben de Ronde. Verantwoordelijk voor deze mix. Even talentvol als hij lang is. Nu staat zijn naam slechts achterop het album vermeld. Er komt een tijd dat hij prominent vóór op de cover staat. Anders heet ik Mariah Carey.

2008 op volle kracht

Wie denkt dat ik al die 69 tracks afzonderlijk ga zitten bespreken die vergist zich in ernstige mate. Ik ben gekke henkie niet. Ik volsta ermee op te merken dat ik zeer heb genoten van deze prachtige compilatie. Dat ik eens te meer besef dat trance leeft. Springlevend is zelfs! Er dat er ook het afgelopen jaar volop geweldige trance producties zijn uitgekomen. Deze mix is het bewijs dat zowel de gevestigde namen nog volop meedoen als dat er ook heel veel nieuw talent te bejubelen valt. Van de diepste progressive klanken tot aan de upliftendste trance klappers, de stroming is nog lang niet uitgeput.

Is dit ook meteen de ultieme trance compilatie over 2008? Een blauwdruk van alles wat het afgelopen jaar op zweefgebied te bieden had? Nee, dat niet. Daarvoor draagt het teveel het Armada stempel. Een 100% Armada stempel zelfs. En voor een representatief trance jaaroverzicht moeten we ook door de cd-rekken van de Black Hole en Vandit stal kunnen bladeren. Om maar wat andere grote relevante spelers te noemen. Maar dat deze dubbelcd vol staat met heerlijke kletsers, knallers en genotsminuutjes, dat staat buiten kijf!
